5th Sunday, Taught by Bishop Gabbitas
Summarized by Liz Thomey
Bishop Gabbitas asked us to imagine a courthouse in which we were each on trial. We were also to be the prosecution and jury. The laws we were to judge ourselves on are found in Moroni 7: 45 and 1st Corinthians 13: 4-7. Each of the following charitable attributes were discussed:
- Charity suffereth long- it is forgiving, ongoing, and patient.
- Charity is kind- kindness is an action. We should be kind, not just act kind.
- Charity envieth not. When we envy others, it is more than jealousy. When you envy, we don’t want others to have things that we don’t.
- Charity vaunteth not itself- it is not boastful. It takes away from the spirit and the focus in Christ.
- Charity is not puffed up. We should not have false humility.
- Charity doth not behave itself unseemly.
- Charity seeketh not her own- we should include others and share with others.
- Charity is not easily provoked. It is not easily offended, excited, or short-fused.
- Charity thinketh no evil.
- Charity rejoiceth not in iniquity.
- Charity rejoiceth in truth.
Many of us struggle with one or more of these attributes; however, if we allow him, Christ will be our advocate.
